London Building Control would like to congratulate the WoodBlock House design team on winning the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) London Regional Award 2014.
A vibrant home and studio built from timber and glass in London’s East End, Woodblock House is situated in the heart of Hackney, placed between neighbouring buildings built from brick and concrete. The Architects brief was to create a studio, home and office for an artist’s family. The result was a simple, large workshop and printing studio space on the ground floor, with separate living accommodation above, all characterised by the qualities of timber, good spaces and ample daylight. WoodBlock House has been constructed in engineered timber, and partially clad with the artist own artwork.
